Day 2 of Skiing at Purgatory

Nice, nice, place. Would be fun to explore more but I just can't hang around long as I feel the pull of the road and the trail calling me.

The mountain got like 6" of fresh snow over night, and the storm was well settled in and it snowed the whole day and probably still is. They're really set for a good month and season at this point and the locals seem to be very happy about it.

This was my first time ever skiing in powder, as in un-groomed/packed runs, and I can say I survived without harm and had a blast (but boy are my quads killing me). The depest powder I ran today was just under knee-deep, it was really really cool, and I can see how addictive it could be. Just liking in biking, I think, being bold is better than being tentative, and that worked a lot for me these last two days.

I so totally "get" why people want to be first down the hill when new powder has fallen, being lucky enough to hit some virgin area with 6+ inches to float through was truly a magical feeling. I really can't claim to be totally comfortable yet (who can after two days) but man it was cool.

I feel really very lucky to have some cool friends who are willing to open their home and host and make this kinds of stuff accessible to me, and I thank Trailsurfer and his very nice Wife so sincerely.

Nice weather over night in Durango

But the road up to the resort was pretty busy

And the weather on the hill look pretty frightful

But who can argue with fresh powder?

And when the mountain is this pretty

You just must make trax

Cause it will put a goofy smile on your face

My so very gracious hostess, hard at work making dinner for the boys (she says she loves to)

And the related host in his throne...

NSI (not ski related) : Bakers Bridge, who knows what duo jumped off this?

Weather forecasts for St. George are looking like Sunday will yield some riding, so it's time to move on and tomorrow I'll be driving out of Durango as reasonably soon as I can on my way.

But, since the forecast for tonight is like 6" of show in town, and I have to go up to go out, I need to get up in the morning and see what road is going to be the best to get out through - 160 via Cortez or 550 to Farmington ... no way to know yet ... we shall just see.
