This is an archive of events that happened in 2006 ...

December 25, 2006 ... Well it's the holiday season again and we find ourselves reflecting on the past year. We actually managed to put together a letter this year. If you want to read it you can find a copy of it here. At any rate, we hope this holiday finds you in the best of spirits with all your dreams coming true!

No More BreakAway...
November 2006 ... as of November 4th, BreakAway Games Austin is no longer in existence. The parent company has decided to focus their resources on their home office and the Serious Games work, deciding that the two and a half year initiative to get the company into the console game market (PlayStation 2 or 3, XBox or Xbox 360, Nintendo GameCube or Wii, etc.) is not going to bear fruit so they have shut it down. This unfortuantely was delivered to the Austin team on the day of a milestone deliverable that they had been crunching hard to complete and had brought together a pretty cool demo ( sample video will be uploaded sometime soonish). The team is working to get a gig, maybe to complete the title, maybe other projects, whatever. Unfortunately for me the timing of this, and providing for my family, does not allow me to just hang out and wait to see if a deal can be got. I have exercised my options and found a new job and will be starting with Mythic Entertainment effecive December 4th, working for this Fairfax, VA based company out of my Austin, TX home. Whee for a new adventure!

Jinx the Isaac Pascal Carbon
October 2006 ... About two months ago my old klunker road bike was stolen off my car, while it was parked and I was at work. This pushed Maria's plans up to getting me a good and properly fitting road bike for Christmas. The end result of this is one dandy full-carbon full-Campagnolo road bike that is probably a lot more road bike than I deserve. I sure love the ride though, truly a wonderful machine. Visiting with Jumps in Santa Fe
July 24 ... On our first real adventure with your new T@B (now named TabbiCamp, we went to Santa Fe, New Mexico to meet up with Leslie, Ned, and Lizzie. It was a real family reunion. We took a bunch of pictures ... the best of the best can be found here.

New to T@B-bing
June 26 ... In an unbelievable turn of luck, we went out on a limb and purchased a T@B. What is a T@B, you ask? Well, I guess it does require explanation but I think pictures speak louder than words (more here):
We spent the 4th of July weekend in it in Warda and had a wonderful time despite the almost 3 inches of rain that we got. It was great! And it has air conditioning to boot! So now we have a problem ... it needs a name ... send us your suggestions either via email or via our new guestbook.

Ted shows his Taiji form
June 24 ... Back in March, Ted and I decided to try taking T'ai Chi classes. This has been an interesting experience for both of us and we enjoy it quite a bit. After several months, on the eve of our graduation to gold sash, we had the opportunity to competed in the Taiji Classic, a form and push-hands competition for students of Master Gohring. We were both nervous and really didn't know what to expect but figured we had nothing to lose.

With much anticipation and very little notice as we were the first group to compete, Ted and I competed in the beginner (white/gold/orange sash) form competition. Ted started slowly and made a great show! It was great enough for him to win first place!. Both judges and spectators were very complimentary. I competed after Ted and would be remiss if I did not mention that I managed to take third. All in all it was a very interesting experience for both of us. There are more pictures available here.

Our trip to New Zealand
March 24 - April 15th ... Ted and I left for a trip of a lifetime to New Zealand. We had the opportunity to spend 3 wonderful weeks there. The first week was spent with my folks in the house in Kerikeri. We then spent two weeks with our friends Susan & Ryan driving around both islands trying to see as much as we could. We took thousands of pictures (really, I had 5300 when I got home), have sorted them down the best of the best resulting in the photographic story of our trip (~650 pictures) and a separate Computer Wallpaper Section. We would like to thank my parents for their hospitality and sense at having a house in such an amazing place.

Bear takes MTB racing to a new level
March 2006 ... Ted was invited to be an official member of Team Hammerhead, a grass roots mountain bike racing team. He even has an official page. It's exciting to be part of a team. As a biking fanatic you know he's going to enjoy this. Stay tuned as he competes in the fall mountain biking series.
