Waypoints created in this way have their elevation data set from the underlying map information, so should not be WILDLY inaccurate, but will not likely 100% coincide with the official maps nor with someone's GPS-recorded altitude.
Astute readers will note that the waypoint based routes make for a shorter overall course than the tracklog based route. This is expected, I did not set it up to make one waypoint per trackpoint, which would be the only way of having the same fidelity of data.
